School of Rock

Director & Choreographer

At its heart, School of Rock is a story about listening—to ourselves, to one another, and especially to the voices we too often overlook. While Dewey Finn may be an unconventional hero, his passion and refusal to conform create space for the Horace Green students to discover their own talents, confidence, and purpose. Rather than waiting to become the leaders of tomorrow, these young people remind us that their creativity, insight, and agency matter right now. The musical invites us to reflect on the balance between passion and responsibility, and challenges us to imagine what becomes possible when we truly listen.

This production invited audiences of all ages to rethink how they value and encourage young people to empower themselves. It inspired adults to examine where children's voices are dismissed or excluded and asked them to share responsibility, leadership, and decision-making in more meaningful ways. At the same time, it celebrated the courage of young people to speak up, take creative risks, and embrace their own talent. When adults choose to listen, and youth feel empowered to lead, collaboration becomes transformative, communities grow stronger, and new possibilities emerge for everyone.
